Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic diversions and restrictions across East, South and West Delhi, Dwarka and central areas on October 20 as large Dussehra, Ramlila and Durga Puja gatherings are expected to bring heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement. Commuters have been advised to avoid affected roads, plan journeys in advance and follow directions from traffic personnel.
In East Delhi, diversions will be imposed as required between 5 pm and 8 pm on NH-24, Road No. 57, Road No. 57A, Road No. 56 and Vikas Marg. The police said the arrangements were necessary because of the expected movement of large crowds near Dussehra celebrations.
In Dwarka, restrictions and diversions may remain in force from 4.50 pm to 8 pm because of anticipated VVIP movement and heavy traffic. The affected routes include Urban Extension Road-II, Road No. 203, Road No. 224, Road No. 205, Road No. 226 and Dwarka Expressway. The traffic police has asked motorists to use alternative routes wherever possible and cooperate with personnel deployed in the area.
Traffic movement may also be affected in and around Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash-II, where Durga Puja celebrations are scheduled from 16 to 20 October. Restrictions in these areas will apply from 4 pm to midnight each day. The advisory covers the Outer Ring Road stretch between Vasant Vihar and Modi Mill Flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near C R Park and August Kranti Marg between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
Other roads listed by the traffic police include M B Road between Khanpur and Jamia Hamdard, Guru Ravidas Marg between the DDA Flats in Kalkaji and Jamia Hamdard, and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg between Khanpur and Chirag Delhi Flyover. Josip Broz Tito Marg between Chirag Delhi Flyover and Moolchand Flyover, along with internal roads in C R Park and Greater Kailash-II, may also see restrictions.
The police has advised motorists to allow extra travel time, park only in designated spaces, avoid roadside parking and follow diversion signs. Commuters have also been encouraged to use the Delhi Metro while travelling to the Durga Puja venues in C R Park and Greater Kailash-II.
Personnel have been deployed at key junctions near major Ramlila venues, including Hanuman Mandir and Delhi Gate, where large crowds are expected. A police official said special traffic arrangements had been in place in the Central Range for the past 10 days since the Ramlila events began. Additional deployment has been made for Dussehra to guide visitors and manage traffic around the venues.
For real-time updates and assistance, the Delhi Traffic Police has provided helpline numbers 1095 and 011-25844444, along with its social media channels and WhatsApp number 8750871493. The restrictions will remain subject to traffic conditions and instructions issued by personnel at the affected locations.
