Delhi Traffic Advisory Reshapes South Delhi Commute
Delhi: Large-scale traffic diversions have been put in place across South Delhi as authorities prepare for a significant religious gathering at Guruji Ashram in the Bhatti Mines area. The temporary restrictions are expected to influence commuter movement throughout Tuesday, with transport officials urging residents to plan journeys in advance.
The advisory highlights the growing challenge of balancing major public events with everyday urban mobility in one of the capital’s busiest transport corridors. According to traffic management authorities, congestion is anticipated from the late hours of Monday night until the end of Tuesday due to the arrival of thousands of devotees from across the country. Several arterial roads surrounding Mehrauli and Bhatti Mines are expected to witness sustained traffic pressure, affecting both local residents and commuters travelling between South Delhi and neighbouring NCR districts. The Delhi traffic advisory identifies SSN Marg, Chhattarpur Road, Bhatti Mines Road and adjoining stretches near the ashram as the most impacted corridors. Vehicle access for visitors attending the event has been channelled through designated entry routes in an effort to minimise disorder around the venue.
Directional signage and on-ground traffic personnel have also been deployed to improve vehicle movement and reduce confusion during peak arrival hours. Heavy commercial vehicles will face additional restrictions as part of the temporary traffic management plan. Freight traffic approaching from the Mandi-Dera border will be diverted towards the Mehrauli-Gurugram corridor instead of entering the event zone, while vehicles approaching from the Bhatti Mines side will be redirected through alternate links connecting Bandh Road, Jonapur and Mehrauli. These diversions are intended to separate long-haul freight movement from local passenger traffic and improve overall road safety. Authorities have clarified that emergency response vehicles, including ambulances, fire services and law enforcement, will continue to receive unrestricted access. Emergency vehicles travelling from the Faridabad side have also been advised to use the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road to avoid anticipated congestion near Dera More and Mandi Border.
