Delhi Robbery: Rs 2.3 Crore Looted from Old Delhi Office

A Delhi robbery at a private firm’s office in Old Delhi’s Lahori Gate area has triggered a police investigation after four unidentified men allegedly tied up a 16-year-old kitchen attendant and fled with cash worth around Rs 2.3 crore on Wednesday morning. The accused also allegedly took the digital video recorder connected to the office’s CCTV cameras, police said.

The incident took place at about 10.30 am at the office of Vishnu Kanti Firm at 425, Koocha Brijnath, within the jurisdiction of Lahori Gate police station. According to police, the kitchen attendant, identified as Vikesh, was inside a room when the four men entered the premises.

The men allegedly restrained him using adhesive tape before taking the cash and leaving in a four-wheeler. Police are working to identify the vehicle and reconstruct the route used by the accused after they left the office, the report said.

Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area and along connecting roads. The removal of the office’s DVR has also become a significant part of the investigation because it may have taken away the primary recording device from the premises.

Police suspect that the accused may have conducted a recce before the robbery and had information about where the money was kept. The report does not identify the source of the cash or establish whether anyone connected to the firm shared information with the alleged robbers.

The case comes amid other high-value theft and robbery investigations in Delhi in which CCTV analysis has played a central role. In June, police solved a case involving the alleged robbery of Rs 1.5 crore near the Zakhira flyover after examining footage from more than 500 cameras and tracking the accused across eight states over about 4,000 km. Police said the cash had been transported by employees of a firm and that an employee later shared information about its movement with the accused. More than Rs 1 crore was recovered, and the case was solved within 11 days.

In another case reported in April, six men allegedly robbed residents of a bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi of jewellery worth around Rs 25 lakh after arriving in an SUV with a fake number plate. Investigators examined footage from more than 150 CCTV cameras and said the robbery was suspected to have been facilitated by a domestic help employed by the family.

For the Lahori Gate case, police are continuing efforts to trace the four-wheeler, identify the accused and analyse footage from the wider road network around Koocha Brijnath. No arrests or recoveries had been reported in the supplied account.
