Several railway Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters across Delhi-NCR will either operate for limited hours or remain closed on Diwali, November 8, Northern Railway has announced. The revised timings are likely to affect passengers who plan to book or manage tickets at physical reservation centres during the festival.
The reservation counters at the IRCA Building, Delhi Junction and Hazrat Nizamuddin will remain open only until 6 pm on November 8. Another 15 centres will close between 2 pm and 8 pm during the evening shift, although Northern Railway said they will operate normally during the morning shift.
The 15 centres listed for the evening closure are Sarojini Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Shakurbasti, Delhi Shahdara, Ghaziabad, Karkardooma, Okhla, Noida, Tughlakabad, Sabzi Mandi, Adarsh Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Rohini, AIIMS and the International Tourist Bureau at the IRCA Building. Passengers using these locations have been advised to check the revised timings before leaving home.
Six railway reservation offices in Delhi-NCR will remain closed for the entire day. These are the centres at Parliament House, the Press Club of India, Rail Bhawan, the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The changes apply to the physical reservation counters listed by Northern Railway. Passengers who need to book tickets during the affected hours can use other available booking options, although the announcement does not specify individual alternative centres or services.
Northern Railway chief public relations officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said passengers planning to visit a reservation centre on November 8 should check the revised timings and confirm whether the centre is open before starting their journey. The advisory is particularly relevant during the festival period, when passenger demand and travel planning are expected to be concentrated around limited operating windows.
The revised schedule distinguishes between counters that will close early, centres affected only during the evening shift and offices that will remain shut throughout the day. Northern Railway has asked passengers to plan visits according to the applicable timing for their chosen centre. The physical-counter changes are scheduled specifically for November 8.
