Delhi PWD Orders Rohtak Road Repairs and Zakhira Drain Work

Delhi PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has ordered the re-carpeting of Rohtak Road, drain desilting at Zakhira and a lighting and cleanliness overhaul beneath the Rani Jhansi Flyover after inspecting key roads and public spaces across Central and West Delhi on Saturday.

The inspection was conducted under the ‘Government on Wheels’ initiative, with officials from the Public Works Department, Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, district administrations and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi travelling together on a single bus. The officials stopped at multiple locations to assess problems and assign responsibility for corrective action on the spot.

The route began at Panchkuiyan Road and covered Rani Jhansi Road, Idgah Road, the Rani Jhansi Flyover and the area beneath it. The inspection then moved through Rohtak Road, New Rohtak Road and Zakhira before continuing to the Karampura Flyover, Patel Road, Shadipur and ending at Shankar Road.

At Rohtak Road, the minister ordered the road to be re-carpeted. The corridor connects Outer Delhi with Rohtak and is used by daily commuters and commercial traffic. The source report did not specify the length of the stretch to be repaired, the estimated cost, the contractor or the completion deadline.

At Zakhira, the focus was on desilting drains, an intervention linked to the functioning of the city’s stormwater network. The inspection also included directions for improving lighting and cleanliness beneath the Rani Jhansi Flyover. These spaces often fall between the responsibilities of different agencies, making the presence of PWD, DJB, I&FC, DMRC and MCD officials relevant to the response.

Shopkeepers, commuters and residents raised concerns directly with the minister at several stops. Their participation brought local complaints into an inspection that otherwise focused on departmental coordination and physical infrastructure. The visit also covered roads and flyover approaches in areas including Karampura, Patel Road and Shadipur, although the report did not detail specific orders for each location.

The inspection’s next steps will depend on the concerned agencies implementing the directions issued at each stop. No timelines, budgets or work orders for the re-carpeting, drainage, lighting or cleanliness measures were provided in the report.
