Delhi Orange Alert Warns of Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Today

The India Meteorological Department has placed Delhi under an orange alert, warning of light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across many parts of the national capital on Thursday, October 15. The warning remains in effect until 12.50 pm, with the weather office forecasting generally cloudy skies and moderate rain during the day.

The IMD said winds are expected to reach speeds of 30-40 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 50 kilometres per hour in several areas. Intermittent lightning and gusty winds are also likely as rain moves across the city.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 23.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning, which was 3.7 degrees above normal for this time of year. Despite the relatively high minimum temperature, the daytime temperature is expected to remain around 29 degrees Celsius because of the cloud cover and rain.

The alert comes as overcast conditions were observed across the capital during the morning. The forecast covers multiple parts of Delhi rather than identifying a single locality, indicating that residents and commuters across the city may experience changing weather conditions during the alert period.

Strong winds, lightning and rain can affect road travel, pedestrian movement and outdoor activity, particularly during periods of reduced visibility. The supplied IMD forecast does not specify any transport suspension, waterlogging advisory or reported weather-related incident in Delhi.

The orange alert represents the weather department’s warning of potentially disruptive conditions that require heightened attention from authorities and the public. However, the information available in the report does not include a separate advisory from the Delhi government, municipal agencies, traffic police or transport operators.

The IMD has forecast moderate rain during the day, with conditions expected to remain generally cloudy. The next official weather update and any subsequent advisory from civic or transport agencies will determine whether the alert is extended or whether additional precautions are announced.
