Delhi Metro early services will begin at 6 am on all corridors this Sunday to support students appearing for examinations and other commuters during traffic restrictions linked to the BRICS Summit, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said on Friday.
The early start will bring forward Sunday operations across the network by one hour. The Pink, Magenta and Grey lines normally begin services at 7 am on Sundays, according to the DMRC. The corporation did not indicate any change to the scheduled operating time of other corridors beyond confirming that services will commence at 6 am on all lines.
“ To facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students appearing for examinations and the general public amid traffic restrictions due to the BRICS Summit, Metro train services will commence at 6 am on all lines on Sunday,” the DMRC said in a post on X.
The corporation said the decision was intended to ensure smooth and timely travel for examination candidates as well as members of the general public. The announcement comes as traffic restrictions are expected in parts of Delhi during the summit, potentially affecting road journeys for commuters travelling to examination centres and other destinations.
Students and passengers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly in view of the restrictions. The DMRC’s announcement provides an earlier public transport option for commuters who would otherwise have had to wait until the regular Sunday start time, particularly on the Pink, Magenta and Grey lines.
The service adjustment applies across all Delhi Metro corridors on Sunday. The DMRC statement did not provide details of any additional train frequency, special services, station closures or changes to interchange arrangements. It also did not specify the locations or duration of the traffic restrictions associated with the summit.
The announcement places the Metro at the centre of the city’s travel arrangements during a major event, with the corporation directing passengers to account for possible road disruptions while planning their journeys. Commuters using the network for examinations or other essential travel have been asked to make use of the revised 6 am start.
The early commencement will remain the operational change announced by the DMRC for Sunday, with services scheduled to begin at 6 am on all corridors instead of the usual later start on selected lines.
