Delhi Fire Contained After 22 Fire Units Battle Gaffar Market Blaze

A major fire broke out at a shop in Puri Plaza in Chain Wali Gali, Block 13 of Delhi’s Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh, prompting the Delhi Fire Services to deploy 22 fire units and continue firefighting operations overnight. No casualties were reported in the incident, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.

The fire was reported late on Friday in the densely packed market area, causing panic among nearby shopkeepers and residents. The flames spread rapidly inside the shop, after which the fire department was informed and emergency vehicles were sent to the site.

As the severity of the blaze became clear, the response was expanded to include 22 units. The vehicles deployed included water tenders, water bowsers and other firefighting equipment. Firefighters worked through the night and continued the operation until the fire was brought under control in the morning.

Chief Fire Officer AK Malik and other senior officials supervised the response, the report said. Firefighters faced the task of containing the flames in a crowded commercial area while preventing the incident from spreading to surrounding shops and buildings.

Gaffar Market is one of Karol Bagh’s well-known commercial areas, and the fire occurred in a section described as a dense market. The report did not provide details on whether the market was open at the time of the incident or whether nearby businesses were evacuated. It also did not report any injuries or deaths.

The cause of the fire had not been established when the report was published. Officials were assessing the extent of damage to the shop and investigating how the blaze started. Further details are expected after the assessment and inquiry are completed.
