Cyberabad traffic restrictions have come into force for 90 days as construction begins on a multilevel flyover and underpass at Hyderabad’s IIIT junction, affecting commuters travelling between Gachibowli, DLF, Radisson Junction and Lingampally. The restrictions started on October 27 and include the closure of the road between DLF Gate No. 1 and the Gachibowli traffic police station.
According to the traffic arrangements reported by Deccan Chronicle, vehicles travelling from the Radisson Hotel towards the IIIT junction will be allowed only up to DLF Gate No. 1. Movement beyond the gate has been prohibited during the construction period.
Vehicles continuing towards the IIIT junction from the Radisson side have been directed to travel via Gachibowli Junction, take a right turn and use the Indiranagar-IIIT junction route. The diversion is expected to affect commuters using the corridor to reach offices and residential areas around DLF and the wider Gachibowli-IT district.
Traffic moving from the Gachibowli traffic police station towards the Radisson Hotel junction will instead be routed through the DLF building. A separate arrangement has been made for vehicles travelling from Lingampally towards DLF Road. That traffic will be diverted at the Gachibowli traffic police station and directed via IIIT Junction and Gachibowli Junction before turning left towards Radisson Junction and then proceeding to the DLF area.
The restrictions also affect regular access for employees and service traffic in the technology corridor. TCS employees will continue to be permitted to use the company’s Non-SEZ, or CMC, gate for entry and exit, according to the reported traffic plan.
The construction project is expected to continue for at least a year, although the initial traffic restrictions have been notified for 90 days. The traffic arrangements indicate that congestion is likely to build up at the IIIT junction and surrounding roads as vehicles are shifted onto alternative routes.
The affected corridor serves a large concentration of information technology offices and daily commuters. The diversions will remain in place during the initial 90-day restriction period while work on the multilevel flyover and underpass progresses.
