Cuttack Railway Station Redevelopment Temporary Train Diverts and Stoppage Changes
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced that three long-distance trains will be temporarily diverted for a month. The diversion is due to the construction of a new air concourse and other essential safety-related modernisation works at the station, which will affect train operations between February 16 and March 17, 2025.
The temporary disruption to train services is necessary to ensure the smooth and safe implementation of key infrastructure projects aimed at upgrading the station. The works will enhance passenger safety and modernise the station’s facilities, as part of a larger initiative to improve railway infrastructure across the region. The diverted trains, which are typically scheduled to stop at Cuttack, will now skip the station and make temporary stops at Naraj Marthapur Railway Station instead. These trains will follow an alternative route via Barang-Naraj Marthapur-Kapilas Road, bypassing Cuttack station, which is undergoing the redevelopment works.
The three affected trains are:
- Coimbatore-Silchar Weekly Super-Fast Express, which usually arrives at Cuttack on Tuesdays
- Ernakulam-Patna Bi-weekly Express, which arrives on Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Bengaluru-Guwahati Tri-Weekly Express, arriving on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
For passengers who were originally scheduled to board or disembark at Cuttack Railway Station, temporary arrangements have been made to ensure minimal disruption. The East Coast Railway will provide free bus services to transport passengers between Naraj Marthapur and Cuttack Railway Station in both directions. This will help ease the inconvenience caused by the altered stoppages and maintain smooth travel plans. While these changes may cause some inconvenience to regular passengers, the diversion of trains is a temporary measure, and the work is necessary to improve Cuttack station’s safety standards and efficiency. Once the redevelopment work is completed, the station is expected to be better equipped to handle increased passenger traffic and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors. The construction of the air concourse and other improvements will enable the station to meet modern safety standards, offering a more comfortable and secure environment for passengers. Such redevelopment projects, although disruptive in the short term, are essential for the long-term growth of the railway network, contributing to a more robust and sustainable infrastructure.
The East Coast Railway has urged passengers to plan accordingly during this one-month period, and assures that all efforts will be made to complete the work on time. Passengers are encouraged to stay updated on the changes through official announcements and railway sources to avoid any last-minute confusion. While infrastructure projects like these can temporarily disrupt services, they are crucial in shaping a more efficient and future-ready transportation system. The redevelopment of Cuttack Railway Station will ultimately benefit thousands of passengers who rely on the station for daily commutes and long-distance travel, enhancing the overall quality of rail travel in the region.
