Chennai’s OMR Undergoes Traffic Diversion Amid CMRL, Metrowater Works

CHENNAI – Tambaram city police have initiated traffic diversions along Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) in response to ongoing infrastructure projects led by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and the Chennai Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Services Board (CMWSSB) at Kumaran Nagar junction. These changes will remain in effect until the completion of the respective works.

Under the revised traffic plan, vehicles bound for Navalur and Kelambakkam from Sholinganallur junction will maintain their usual routes. However, vehicles destined for Nookampalayam Road and Tsunami quarters will be rerouted to execute a U-turn at Sathyabama University junction and make a left turn at Kumaran Nagar junction. For vehicles originating from Tsunami quarters and Nookampalayam Road, seeking to access Kelambakkam, the instructed route involves a left turn at Kumaran Nagar junction, followed by a U-turn 150 metres ahead, leading towards Navalur and Kelambakkam.

Similarly, vehicles traveling from Thiruvalluvar Salai will be directed to turn left to reach Navalur and execute a U-turn at Sathyabama junction to access Tsunami quarters and Sholinganallur. Motorists arriving from Navalur with the intention of proceeding towards Thiruvallur Salai will execute a U-turn after Kumaran Nagar junction to continue their journey to the desired destination.

These traffic diversions are implemented to facilitate the smooth progress of infrastructure projects undertaken by CMRL and CMWSSB, thereby minimising disruptions and ensuring public safety during the construction phase.

The temporary alterations in traffic routes underscore the proactive approach of Tambaram city police in managing traffic flow and mitigating potential congestion issues arising from ongoing development activities. While adjustments to traffic patterns may cause inconvenience to commuters, the overarching objective is to expedite the completion of critical infrastructure projects for the benefit of Chennai’s residents and visitors. Cooperation from the public is crucial in adhering to the specified traffic routes to facilitate efficient construction operations and ensure the timely delivery of the projects.

As Chennai progresses towards its urban development goals, strategic traffic management initiatives play a pivotal role in maintaining the functionality of road networks and supporting the seamless execution of essential infrastructure ventures.
