The elevated pedestrian corridor, being developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) at an estimated cost of ₹79 crore, is intended to provide direct, weather-protected access between long-distance bus services and suburban rail operations. Construction of the third section, which will connect the railway station through a newly created access corridor, has also begun and is reported to be partially complete. Even so, the final stages depend on permissions involving railway infrastructure, including the installation of structural components over active rail lines and completion of passenger facilities at the halt station. Infrastructure officials say these activities require carefully coordinated railway blocks, during which train movements must be temporarily suspended to ensure construction safety. While the railway station’s primary civil works have been completed, passengers continue to await the pedestrian connection that would allow convenient movement between bus and rail services.
