Chennai Suburban Trains Face Partial Cancellations on Oct 6

Chennai suburban train services will be partially cancelled on October 6 between Chengalpet and Tambaram because of an engineering and signal block on the Chennai Egmore–Villupuram section, Southern Railway said.

The line block and signal block will be in place between Guduvancheri and Tambaram from 11.30am to 3pm. The railway said the work is part of ongoing engineering activity and has been scheduled to prioritise passenger safety and safe train operations.

Five Chengalpet–Chennai Beach EMU services will be partially cancelled between Chengalpet and Tambaram. These trains are scheduled to leave Chengalpet at 11.50am, 12.30pm, 1.05pm, 1.35pm and 2.15pm.

In the opposite direction, five Chennai Beach–Chengalpet services will also be partially cancelled between Tambaram and Chengalpet. The affected trains are scheduled to leave Chennai Beach at 10.13am, 10.48am, 11.28am, 12.02pm and 12.30pm.

The cancellations will affect the Chengalpet–Tambaram stretch during the afternoon engineering window, requiring passengers travelling through the section to account for the altered service pattern. The railway’s announcement did not specify replacement services or additional arrangements for commuters during the block.

The work is taking place on the Chennai Egmore–Villupuram rail section, a key suburban and regional rail corridor serving areas south of Chennai. Southern Railway has not announced any further changes beyond the 10 partially cancelled services listed for October 6.

The line and signal block is scheduled to end at 3pm, after which regular operations are expected to be governed by the railway’s operating arrangements for the corridor.
