According to senior weather officials, the current rainfall pattern is linked to the interaction of easterly and westerly wind systems at higher atmospheric levels near the Chennai coastline. Similar temperature conditions are expected to persist briefly before drier weather sets in during the middle of the week. Meteorological assessments indicate that another phase of rainfall activity could return towards the end of the week. The latest episode of Chennai rainfall comes as cities across southern India increasingly contend with unpredictable weather cycles driven by changing climatic conditions. Urban planners and environmental experts have repeatedly stressed the need for improved stormwater infrastructure, enhanced flood preparedness and the protection of natural drainage channels to reduce disruption during such events.
