A long-pending road connectivity project connecting Pazhavanthangal subway with Nanganallur’s Fifth Main Road has returned to focus as residents seek faster execution to address recurring traffic bottlenecks. The proposed corridor, planned within Greater Chennai Corporation limits, is expected to improve east-west movement, reduce congestion around narrow streets, and strengthen last-mile connectivity in one of south Chennai’s densely populated neighbourhoods.
The proposed Pazhavanthangal link road project received administrative approval in 2025, with funds allocated for acquiring and transferring the land required for construction. However, delays in completing the acquisition process have slowed progress, leaving residents and mobility advocates concerned about continued congestion in surrounding streets. The missing road connection has created pressure on existing routes around Pazhavanthangal subway, which serves as a key access point between residential areas such as Nanganallur and major transport corridors including GST Road.
