Fujitec India Pvt. Ltd. has emerged as the lowest bidder for the escalator contract of Chennai Metro Rail Corporation’s (CMRL) Phase 2 Corridor 5.
This corridor, extending 44.6 km from Madhavaram Depot to Sholinganallur, is poised to enhance the city’s rapid transit infrastructure. CMRL initiated the tender process for the escalator contract under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan agreement ID-P 272. The tender, identified as CP14-C5-AES03-ESC, was published on June 14, 2024, with the final submission deadline on November 5, 2024. The contract encompasses the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of heavy-duty escalators for the specified corridor.
The technical evaluation of the bids was conducted on May 22, 2025, followed by the opening of financial bids on May 23, 2025. Fujitec India’s bid, valued at ₹289 crore, was deemed the most competitive, leading to their selection for the contract. The project is slated for completion within a 1940-day timeframe, aligning with CMRL’s commitment to enhancing commuter experience and operational efficiency. The escalators to be installed will feature advanced technological systems, including Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, enabling real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance. These systems aim to reduce downtime and enhance the reliability of the escalators, contributing to the overall efficiency of the metro system. Additionally, the escalators will be equipped with energy-efficient motors and anti-slip steps, aligning with CMRL’s objectives of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly urban transport solutions.
