The Ministry of Defence has granted in-principle approval for the development of Adilabad Airport to support civilian air operations, marking a significant milestone in Telangana’s regional connectivity aspirations.
This decision follows comprehensive consultations between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Telangana state government, reflecting a collaborative effort to enhance aviation infrastructure in the region. The IAF has sanctioned the integration of civilian aircraft operations at the Adilabad airfield, proposing its development as a joint-user airport in coordination with the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This strategic move aims to bolster regional air connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and support sustainable development in line with India’s broader civil aviation objectives. For civilian operations to commence, the AAI will undertake land acquisition adjacent to the existing airfield to construct a new civil terminal, aircraft parking apron, and other essential infrastructure. In line with procedural requirements, the IAF has instructed the AAI to submit a detailed proposal to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which will serve as a key regulatory milestone for advancing the project.
