Hyderabad’s Madhapur police have recovered around 50 mobile phones reported lost or stolen within their station limits, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and IMEI-based tracing, police said. The devices were valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh and were traced from different locations.
The recovered phones were handed over to their respective owners at Madhapur police station after the police completed verification and other formalities. The handover took place in the presence of the deputy commissioner of police for Kukatpally zone.
According to the police, the recovery process involved tracing the devices through their International Mobile Equipment Identity numbers, commonly known as IMEI numbers. Officers also conducted sustained follow-up and verification before returning the phones to the people who had reported them missing.
The operation highlights the role of the CEIR portal in helping police track mobile devices reported lost or stolen. In this case, the phones were located in different places before being recovered and matched with the claims made by their respective owners.
Police said the owners expressed happiness after receiving their devices. The handover followed the completion of the required verification and formalities, with officers confirming the ownership details before returning the phones.
The deputy commissioner of police appreciated the Madhapur police personnel for using the CEIR portal and technology-based methods to trace the devices. The recognition placed the recovery within a wider policing effort to use digital tools alongside follow-up investigation at the station level.
Police have appealed to citizens to report lost or stolen mobile phones immediately and provide their IMEI numbers. The number is important for the tracing process, as the Madhapur recovery operation relied on IMEI-based identification and follow-up.
The recovery also underlines the administrative importance of timely reporting. Without a complaint and the relevant device details, police may have less information to verify a phone when it is traced. Madhapur police have therefore asked citizens to share the IMEI number when reporting a missing or stolen device.
The phones were returned after verification at Madhapur police station. Police said citizens should continue to report such incidents promptly so that the available technology and investigative follow-up can be used to trace the devices.
