BRICS Summit traffic curbs and diversions will be enforced across central Delhi from 2pm to 8.30pm on September 11 as delegates travel to Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, according to a Delhi Traffic Police advisory. Traffic will be regulated at 22 diversion points, with restrictions expected on more than 35 roads.
The affected corridors include Mathura Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road and Barakhamba Road. Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, K.G. Marg, PWD Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg are also among the routes listed for regulation.
At Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, vehicles travelling towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg will not be allowed to proceed beyond the junction. At Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, commercial vehicles will be stopped from moving beyond the junction towards W-Point.
Additional diversions will be introduced at Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Patel Chowk, the RML Hospital roundabout and Vande Mataram Marg. The traffic police have placed advance signage at key intersections, including ITO, to warn commuters not to continue beyond restricted points.
The restrictions are intended to keep routes clear for the movement of BRICS Summit delegates between venues and associated locations. Government offices and schools are shut on September 11, and traffic officials expect that the closures will limit the effect on regular daytime movement.
Commuters have been advised to plan journeys in advance, avoid the restricted corridors and use public transport wherever possible. The traffic controls are scheduled to remain in force until 8.30pm on Friday.
