BMC’s Coastal Road to Seamlessly Connect with Sea Link by Mid-April

In a significant development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is poised to overcome a pivotal juncture in its ambitious coastal road project, as it aims to bridge the gap between the coastal road and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link by April 16.

This milestone marks a crucial step towards enhancing connectivity and easing traffic congestion along Mumbai’s coastal stretch. At the heart of this endeavor lies the launch of a 120-meter girder equipped with a bowstring arch, designed to seamlessly connect the southbound arm of the coastal road with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Comprising a total of eight girders, this architectural feat will culminate in the realization of an arch bridge spanning the Worli end of the coastal road to the southern terminus of the sea link, encompassing both the south and north-bound arms. The bridge’s structural composition is a testament to engineering ingenuity, with an impressive 850-meter span integrating steel and concrete components. Notably, 270 meters of the bridge will be crafted from steel, underscoring the meticulous planning and precision engineering required to execute such a monumental project. AECOM is the BMC’s general consultant for the south coastal road project and takes care of contracts and design handling on behalf of the civic body. The significance of this infrastructure milestone extends beyond mere connectivity enhancements. By bridging the gap between the coastal road and the sea link, BMC aims to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance commuter convenience, and bolster Mumbai’s infrastructural resilience against the backdrop of burgeoning urbanization.
