BMC Takes Action on Water Contamination Complaints in Vikhroli

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has swiftly responded to complaints from residents of Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli, regarding the presence of contaminated water in their locality, signalling a proactive approach towards addressing public health concerns.

In light of the complaints, BMC has initiated repair works on the water mains in the area, despite clarifications that the mains are owned and managed by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada). Utilising advanced technology such as crawler cameras, BMC conducted thorough inspections to identify sources of water pipe leaks and contamination. This proactive measure underscores BMC’s commitment to leveraging modern tools and techniques to swiftly identify and rectify infrastructure issues affecting water quality.

In addition to repairs on the water mains, BMC has also commenced repair works on the sewerage system to mitigate the risk of water contamination. By addressing both water supply and sewerage infrastructure simultaneously, BMC aims to comprehensively tackle the root causes of water quality concerns in the area. To assess the impact of contaminated water on public health, BMC conducted health surveys among residents, providing medical assistance to individuals exhibiting symptoms of water-borne illnesses. However, BMC official says no significant surge in such cases at civic hospitals or private dispensaries, indicating a timely response to potential health risks associated with contaminated water. The proactive approach adopted by BMC in response to residents’ complaints underscores the importance of efficient governance and public service delivery in safeguarding public health and well-being. By swiftly identifying and addressing infrastructure deficiencies, BMC sets a precedent for proactive municipal management and public health intervention in addressing community concerns. Moving forward, sustained efforts in infrastructure maintenance, technological innovation, and community engagement will be essential for BMC to uphold its commitment to ensuring clean and safe water supply for all residents of Mumbai, safeguarding public health and fostering community well-being.
