BMC Imposes 30-Hour Water Cut in Mumbai
Mumbai residents in several key suburban wards are set to experience a 30-hour water cut starting today, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) works to commission a new 2400 mm water pipeline. The large-scale infrastructure project, which involves integrating the new pipeline between Powai Anchor Block and the Maroshi Water Tunnel, will lead to a temporary disruption in water supply across multiple civic wards, including Bandra, Kurla, and Andheri.
The affected areas fall within S (Bhandup), L (Kurla), K East (Andheri East), H East (Bandra East), and G North (Sion, Matunga) wards. The BMC has urged residents to use water judiciously during this period and has provided a detailed list of impacted localities. Among the hardest-hit areas, the S ward (Bhandup) will see a complete shutdown of water supply in locations such as Shrirampada, Tulshetpada, and Ramabai Nagar. Similarly, L ward (Kurla) will witness a total outage in regions like Kajupada, Kapadia Nagar, and LBS Marg. In G North ward, Dharavi and Matunga Labour Camp are among the key affected zones. Meanwhile, in K East ward (Andheri East), areas like International Airport Road, SEEPZ-MIDC, and Bhavani Nagar will face disruptions. The H East ward (Bandra East) will also see a complete water cut, impacting Bandra Terminus, Khernagar, and Behram Pada.
The BMC’s hydraulic department has undertaken this critical project to strengthen the city’s water distribution network. The newly laid 2400 mm pipeline will eventually replace two existing 1800 mm pipelines from Tansa East and West, enhancing water supply efficiency across the metropolitan region. While temporary inconveniences are expected, the BMC has assured citizens that these infrastructure upgrades are essential for long-term water security. The civic body has advised residents to make necessary arrangements and conserve water until supply is restored.
