Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to accelerate the rollout of the Viksit Bharat-Rozgar evam Aajeevika Guarantee Mission-Rural, or VB-G RAM G, with the state targeting 3 lakh projects worth Rs 22,000 crore for rural employment and village development.
Chairing a review meeting on Thursday, Choudhary stressed that rural households should receive 125 days of guaranteed employment annually under the mission. He also instructed officials to ensure that wages are paid within 15 days, making timely disbursal a central implementation priority.
The number of projects planned under the mission is to be increased from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh. According to the state government, the programme is intended to support rural employment, strengthen livelihoods and advance infrastructure development across villages.
The chief minister identified water security, rural infrastructure, livelihood enhancement and disaster management as the four key intervention areas. The planned works include Anganwadi centres, additional classrooms in schools, healthcare facilities, rural markets and playgrounds.
The programme will also cover the renovation of canals, reservoirs and other water bodies. These projects place water management and basic public infrastructure within the same employment and village development framework, according to the details presented at the meeting.
The state has set a specific construction and furnishing allocation for Anganwadi centres. Each centre will receive Rs 12 lakh for construction, along with an additional Rs 2 lakh for furnishings, educational materials and furniture.
Rural Development Department Additional Chief Secretary H R Srinivas presented the mission’s features, action plan and implementation strategy during the review. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Building Construction Department Minister Leshi Singh and senior departmental officials.
The scale-up places responsibility on district and local implementation systems to identify works, execute projects and process wage payments within the stated timeline. The government’s emphasis on water bodies, schools, healthcare facilities and village markets also links employment generation with the delivery of community assets.
The state government said effective implementation of VB-G RAM G would provide fresh momentum to the comprehensive development of villages. The next stage is the incorporation and execution of the expanded project list under the mission, alongside monitoring of wage payments and the identified priority works.
