Bhayandar | September 8, 2026 — A cardiac catheterisation laboratory being established at the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Government Hospital in Bhayandar West has entered its final stage of implementation and is expected to begin offering free heart treatment before December, according to hospital officials quoted by Loksatta.
The facility will provide angiography, angioplasty and other cardiac procedures for patients. It will also examine and treat holes in children’s hearts, alongside procedures for blockages in the blood vessels of adult patients. The services are intended to be available without charge, including for economically weaker patients who may otherwise face the high cost of cardiac treatment.
The 200-bed hospital currently treats patients for a limited range of conditions, but receives a substantial number of patients. The new cardiac centre is part of efforts undertaken over the past several years to expand the hospital’s treatment capacity and add specialised medical services.
Approval for the cardiac catheterisation laboratory was granted in March 2024. A separate building has since been constructed within the hospital premises. It has been located near the hospital entrance because patients suffering a heart attack require urgent access to treatment, the report said.
Hospital superintendent and surgeon Dr Jafar Tadvi said the civil and electrical work for the laboratory, along with the installation of equipment, had been completed. A 10-bed intensive care unit has also been prepared. Four nurses have completed training at J.J. Hospital, according to the hospital administration.
A proposal has been sent to the health department for the appointment of doctors, technicians and other medical staff required to operate the centre. The facility’s opening will therefore depend not only on the completed construction and equipment installation but also on the deployment of the remaining personnel.
The planned services are expected to serve patients from Mira-Bhayandar as well as people travelling from Mumbai and areas towards Gujarat for cardiac care. The hospital has not provided a separate operational schedule or details of the final staffing strength in the information reported.
The proposed laboratory will add specialised cardiac capacity to a government hospital that already handles a large patient load. Its immediate implementation milestone is the appointment of the required medical and technical staff, after which the cardiac centre is expected to commence services before December.
