Thousands of residents in Bengaluru’s Mysuru Road corridor faced temporary water supply interruptions on Friday as emergency repair work on a major Cauvery water transmission pipeline forced authorities to suspend distribution across several neighbourhoods. The disruption, triggered by a significant leak in a key drinking water line, has once again drawn attention to the growing strain on the city’s ageing water infrastructure amid rapid urban expansion.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) initiated urgent maintenance after detecting damage in a 600-mm Cauvery Stage-II transmission pipeline serving parts of western Bengaluru. Officials indicated that valves along the network had to be temporarily shut for several hours to allow repair teams to stabilise the system and prevent further water loss.While the interruption was planned as a short-duration measure, the impact was felt across residential communities, apartment clusters and local commercial establishments that rely heavily on Cauvery water for daily consumption.
