Bengaluru Suburban Rail has invited a tender estimated at ₹986.50 crore for traction and power-supply systems on Corridors 2 and 4, including the Soladevanahalli depot that will serve both routes. The package is intended to provide the electrical infrastructure required to operate trains on two of the city’s four planned suburban rail corridors.
According to B-RIDE officials cited in the report, the tender covers receiving substations, incoming cable connections from grid substations, 25 kV AC traction systems, 33 kV auxiliary main substations, 25 kV overhead equipment, auxiliary power supply, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated works. Traction and power supply are essential for the operation of electric trains and for the maintenance of railway systems.
Corridor 2, known as the Mallige Line, runs for 25.57 km from Chikkabanavara to Benniganahalli. B-RIDE officials said the project is intended to support the start of suburban rail services between Chikkabanavara and Yeshwanthpur by the end of next year. The tender is therefore linked to the electrical systems needed for the initial operating section of the corridor.
Corridor 4, known as the Kanaka Line, will connect Rajanukunte and Heelalige over 47 km. Construction work on the corridor is in progress, and officials expect train operations to begin within two years. The traction and power package covers infrastructure for both corridors, making it a common operational requirement rather than a standalone station or civil works contract.
A rolling-stock depot for Corridors 2 and 4 is being built at Soladevanahalli, near the Chikkabanavara suburban railway station. The depot will include stabling lines, workshop lines, inspection bays, repair bays and automated coach-washing plants. These facilities are intended to support the operation and maintenance of the train fleet once services begin.
B-RIDE’s procurement division has already held a pre-bid meeting for the traction and power-supply works. The last date for submitting bids is November 20, according to the report. Tender details have been made available through the government e-procurement portal cited by the agency.
The electricity tender follows B-RIDE’s approval to use European Train Control System Level 2 signalling across all four Bengaluru Suburban Rail corridors instead of communications-based train control technology. SCADA and auxiliary power systems will form part of the control and operational infrastructure required to manage the corridors. B-RIDE officials described the tender as a major milestone after the suburban rail works had progressed slowly for several years.
