Bengaluru traffic police have restricted vehicle movement on Race Course Road and nearby stretches after the Greater Bengaluru Authority began white-topping and civic infrastructure work on the corridor, with the restrictions expected to continue until December.
The work, which began on October 5, covers Race Course Road between Maurya Junction and Hare Krishna Road Junction. The Greater Bengaluru Authority is also undertaking construction of a new stormwater drain, sewage line and utility infrastructure along the stretch, according to the traffic police.
Traffic movement has been restricted on two key approaches to Maurya Junction. All vehicles are prohibited from travelling from Shivananda Junction towards Maurya Junction, while vehicles approaching Maurya Junction from Trilight Junction on Race Course Road are also being stopped.
The restrictions affect BMTC buses, private buses, heavy goods vehicles and other traffic using the corridor. Vehicles travelling towards K R Market on Sankey Road have been directed to proceed straight from Windsor Manor towards L R D E Junction, take a right turn there and continue via Basaveshwara Junction.
Buses, heavy goods vehicles and other vehicles travelling towards Majestic on Sankey Road must instead use Kumara Krupa Road to reach Shivananda Circle. From there, they are required to take a right turn and then a left turn onto S C Road before proceeding towards Majestic.
Traffic from Old J D S Junction towards Trilight Junction can use the road on the left at Old J D S Junction, take a left turn at Raceview Junction and continue via Kumara Krupa Road towards Shivananda Junction.
Vehicles travelling from Trilight Junction towards Maurya Junction have been directed to proceed straight over the Shivananda Flyover from Trilight Junction, reach S C Road via Nehru Circle and continue towards Majestic.
The project combines road resurfacing with underground and drainage-related civic work, meaning the restrictions cover more than a temporary traffic intervention. The affected route connects several important junctions in central Bengaluru and is used by public transport, private vehicles and goods traffic.
Traffic police said vehicle movement on Race Course Road would remain restricted while the work is carried out. Commuters using Sankey Road, Shivananda Junction, Trilight Junction, Maurya Junction and routes towards Majestic and K R Market will need to follow the designated diversions until the civic works progress sufficiently for the restrictions to be lifted.
