Bengaluru Metro Purple Line Disruption Ends After Track Incident

Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line services were briefly disrupted on the morning of October 30 after a passenger entered the tracks at Indiranagar station, prompting the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to activate emergency safety systems. The passenger was safely rescued and normal operations resumed shortly afterwards.

According to BMRCL, the incident occurred at 9.22 a.m. The Emergency Trip System and Emergency Stop Plunger were activated as a precautionary measure, temporarily affecting train movements on the Purple Line.

Purple Line services were delayed by approximately 10 minutes following the incident. The disruption occurred during the morning peak period, when the corridor carries commuters travelling between eastern Bengaluru and the central parts of the city.

A few trains on the Green Line were also regulated to prevent overcrowding at Kempegowda Majestic interchange station. Majestic is a key transfer point between Bengaluru Metro’s Purple and Green lines, meaning a disruption on one corridor can quickly affect passenger movement on the other.

BMRCL said normal train operations on both lines were restored at 9.40 a.m. The incident nevertheless highlights the operational impact of a track intrusion at a busy metro station, where emergency systems must be activated before train services can safely resume.

The immediate disruption ended after the passenger was rescued and the safety response was completed. BMRCL’s next operational step was the restoration of regular services on the Purple and Green lines.
