Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G has directed officials to repair defective streetlights, clear footpath obstructions and maintain road quality after inspecting civic conditions around St John’s Church Road, Ulsoor Lake and Shivajinagar on Tuesday.
The inspection covered roads, cleanliness and streetlighting in the central Bengaluru areas. According to a statement issued by the BCCC, Jagadish instructed officials to identify and repair all non-functional and defective streetlights immediately.
He also directed civic staff to ensure that public areas receive adequate illumination and to prune or remove excessive tree branches blocking streetlights. The corporation said the commissioner emphasised that functioning streetlights were necessary for public safety and the movement of pedestrians and vehicles at night.
During the inspection, Jagadish reviewed asphalting work on St John’s Cross Road. He instructed engineers to follow the prescribed quality standards and technical specifications for the work, the BCCC said.
Officials were also directed to remove abandoned vehicles from roadsides, prevent encroachments on footpaths and clear other obstructions affecting public movement. The statement did not specify a deadline for completing the repairs, the number of defective streetlights identified or the locations of the abandoned vehicles and encroachments.
The inspection comes as the corporation reviews routine civic infrastructure and maintenance issues in central Bengaluru. The BCCC’s directions cover streetlighting, road works, roadside clearance and pedestrian access in the inspected areas. Further action will depend on officials identifying the defects and obstructions recorded during the inspection.
