Southern Railway has announced two Ayudha Puja special train services connecting Rameswaram, Chennai and Mangaluru on October 16, providing additional rail capacity during the festive travel period.
A one-way special train from Rameswaram to Chennai Egmore was scheduled to depart at 9:45 am. The service was to stop at Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi, Karaikudi, Tiruchirappalli, Villupuram and Tambaram before reaching Chennai Egmore.
The additional service links several important towns in southern Tamil Nadu with the state capital. The listed stops include major passenger interchange points such as Tiruchirappalli and Villupuram, as well as suburban access through Tambaram for passengers travelling towards Chennai.
Southern Railway also announced a special service from Chennai Egmore to Mangaluru Central, scheduled to leave at 11:55 pm. The announcement did not provide a return-service schedule or details of coach composition, fares or seat availability.
The services are intended to support passenger movement around Ayudha Puja, a period that typically brings additional travel demand across Tamil Nadu. For passengers, the operational details that matter most are the departure stations, scheduled timings and intermediate stops, particularly because both services operate as one-way specials according to the announcement.
Passengers planning to use either service should confirm the latest timetable, reservation status and platform information through official railway channels before travelling. Southern Railway’s announcement is the basis for the timings and stopping pattern reported here.
