AMC Ahmedabad Food Raid Finds Burnt Oil at Danilimda Unit

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s health department raided food-processing units at the Barrel Market Estate in Danilimda and found what the Sandesh report described as severely unhygienic conditions, reused burnt oil and prohibited food colours. The civic team seized suspected unsafe material and began action to seal the unit involved.

The raid was part of an intensive checking drive conducted by the AMC health department for the second consecutive day, according to Sandesh. Officials inspected several small food-production establishments operating in the estate, where farsan and other food items were reportedly being prepared for sale.

The inspection found food being produced in conditions described in the report as extremely poor and unhygienic. The health team also found dirt across the premises, along with food colour that the report identified as harmful and oil that had allegedly been repeatedly reused until it became burnt.

The use of prohibited food colours in farsan and other food products is not permitted under the food-safety rules cited in the report. The findings raise a direct municipal enforcement issue because small production units supplying prepared snacks can operate away from the visibility of formal retail outlets, while their products may still reach consumers across the city.

The AMC health department seized the suspected inedible and unsafe material found during the inspection. The report said officials also initiated immediate action to seal the concerned home-industry unit for alleged violations of prevailing food-safety requirements.

The Danilimda operation followed a wider AMC drive against adulteration and the unauthorised preparation of food items. Sandesh reported that the action was aimed at establishments involved in allegedly illegal food production and that the raids created pressure among operators in the estate.

The report did not provide the quantity of oil or food colour seized, the name of the unit’s operator, or details of any prosecution, laboratory testing or financial penalty. The immediate administrative step identified was the seizure of the suspected material and the process of sealing the unit. Further action will depend on the AMC’s enforcement proceedings and any findings recorded under applicable food-safety rules.
