After a hiatus, the iconic Neral-Matheran Toy Train has resumed its nostalgic journey through the verdant Western Ghats. This heritage train, a marvel of engineering, offers a unique and enchanting experience for tourists visiting the picturesque hill station of Matheran. The train’s journey from Neral to Matheran is a leisurely affair, taking approximately two and a half hours to cover a distance of 20 kilometers. The route winds through lush green valleys, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking vistas. The train makes three stops along the way: Jummapatti, Water Pipe, and Aman Lodge.
Beyond Aman Lodge, automobiles are prohibited, ensuring a serene and pollution-free environment. From here, tourists can either embark on a scenic hike, hire a horse, or continue their journey on the toy train to reach Matheran. The train operates twice daily in both directions, with the first train departing from Neral at 8:50 AM and reaching Matheran by 11:30 AM. The second train leaves Neral at 10:25 AM and arrives in Matheran at 1:05 PM. For the return journey, the first train departs from Matheran at 2:45 PM and reaches Neral by 5:30 PM, while the second train leaves Matheran at 4 PM and arrives in Neral at 6:40 PM.
In addition to the main train service, a shuttle service operates multiple times a day between Aman Lodge and Matheran. This provides flexibility for tourists to explore the hill station at their own pace. The Neral-Matheran Toy Train offers a blend of nostalgia, adventure, and natural beauty.
