Ahmedabad Road Safety Risk Grows as Tree Blocks New Ramol Road

A coconut tree standing in the middle of a newly built road between Ramol police station and Ramol village in Ahmedabad has become a road-safety hazard, with three minor accidents reported at the location. Traffic police have now written to the concerned department seeking its immediate removal.

The road connects the area near CTM with the Sardar Patel Ring Road and reportedly carries continuous traffic. According to local residents cited by Divya Bhaskar, the tree is located near a bend and is difficult for motorists to see at night. It also obstructs the light from a streetlight, reducing visibility for people using the road.

The road was constructed recently by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. However, residents have said that the new route has become dangerous instead of improving convenience for commuters because the tree remains within the carriageway.

Local residents had previously submitted representations seeking action, but no effective steps were taken, according to the report. The issue came to the attention of the traffic police after repeated accident incidents were reported.

Traffic police have subsequently issued a written request to the relevant civic department to remove the tree from the middle of the road, citing the safety of motorists. The report does not specify when the tree will be removed or which civic department will carry out the work.

The incident raises an immediate implementation concern for newly built urban roads: road construction and roadside tree management need to be coordinated before a route is opened to regular traffic. In this case, the reported obstruction is located at a bend, where limited visibility and inadequate lighting can increase the risk to motorists, particularly after dark.

The next step identified in the report is action by the concerned municipal department on the traffic police’s written request to remove the tree and address the hazard.
