Indian Railways has approved a major expansion of its indigenous train protection technology across the Ahmedabad Division, reinforcing efforts to modernise rail operations and enhance passenger safety on one of western India’s busiest transport networks. The newly sanctioned project will extend Kavach Technology across nearly 600 route kilometres within the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway. Designed as an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, the technology is intended to monitor train movements continuously, intervene during unsafe operating conditions and reduce the likelihood of collisions or signal-related incidents. Transport experts regard Kavach Technology as an important milestone in India’s railway modernisation strategy.
