Ahmedabad Parking Charges Set to Rise After AMC Panel Approval

Ahmedabad parking charges are set to increase across Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-operated pay-and-park facilities and on-street parking locations after the civic body’s Town Planning Committee approved a revised rate proposal. The new rates are expected to take effect in December, subject to approval by the Standing Committee and the General Body.

Under the approved proposal, the first-hour charge for two-wheelers will double from Rs 5 to Rs 10. The first-hour charge for four-wheelers will rise from Rs 15 to Rs 20. The revised rates are proposed for on-road and off-road parking, multilevel parking facilities and other parking sites operated by the corporation.

The proposal covers two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, medium vehicles and heavy vehicles. However, the report by Gujarat Samachar – Ahmedabad specifies revised time-based rates for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

For two-wheelers, the Town Planning Committee approved a charge of Rs 15 for parking between one and three hours, compared with the Rs 20 proposed by the municipal commissioner. The rate for three to six hours has been set at Rs 25, instead of the proposed Rs 35. Parking for six to 12 hours will cost Rs 40, compared with the proposed Rs 50, while the charge for 12 to 24 hours will be Rs 55 instead of Rs 70.

For four-wheelers, the first-hour rate has been increased to Rs 20. The charge for one to two hours will be Rs 40, while parking for three to six hours will cost Rs 80. The rates for six to 12 hours and 12 to 24 hours have been set at Rs 120 and Rs 170, respectively.

The committee’s decision follows an earlier report on the proposed increase in Ahmedabad parking charges published by Gujarat Samachar Digital on October 10. The latest approval moves the proposal forward but does not yet make the revised rates operational.

According to the Town Planning Committee chairman, the municipal commissioner had submitted the proposal to increase parking charges. The committee made changes to some of the rates suggested by the commissioner before approving the revised proposal.

The pending approvals will determine whether the new rates can be implemented in December. Until the Standing Committee and General Body approve the proposal and the corporation issues an implementation decision, the existing parking charges remain applicable at AMC-operated facilities.
