The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun preparing its budget for the financial year 2027-28 and invited citizens to submit suggestions on essential services and development works in their wards by October 30.
Mayor Hitesh Barot and Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel said the civic body seeks suggestions from residents in every ward before preparing its annual budget. The initiative is being presented as a part of citizen participation in the municipal budgeting process.
Residents can send their suggestions to [email protected] along with their name, mobile number and email address. The corporation said proposals considered suitable for inclusion will be examined while preparing the upcoming budget.
The invitation places ward-level service requirements at the centre of the initial budget consultation. According to the report, suggestions received during the previous budget exercise focused particularly on improving water supply, drainage and roads in different parts of Ahmedabad.
These three services are among the most direct points of contact between residents and the municipal administration. Water supply affects daily household access, drainage capacity influences the functioning of neighbourhoods during heavy rainfall and road conditions shape access, public transport movement and local connectivity. The corporation’s reference to these demands indicates that basic service delivery remains a significant part of the public budget conversation.
The process also gives the civic body an opportunity to gather area-specific requirements before finalising spending priorities. Ward-level requests can identify local gaps that may not be visible through citywide budget categories, although the report does not specify how suggestions will be screened, ranked or converted into funded projects.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has not disclosed the size of the proposed 2027-28 budget, the allocation planned for individual services or the number of suggestions received so far.
