Ahmedabad: Public transport usage in Ahmedabad has reached a significant milestone, with the city’s metro system recording more than five million passenger journeys in July, underscoring a steady shift in commuter behaviour towards mass transit. The achievement reflects growing confidence in rail-based urban mobility while highlighting the importance of strengthening last-mile connectivity and integrated transport planning as the city continues to expand.
According to publicly available operational data, Ahmedabad Metro ridership exceeded 5.1 million passenger trips during July, marking the highest monthly usage since commercial operations began. The latest figures also surpassed the previous peak recorded earlier this year, suggesting that metro travel is becoming a more established part of everyday commuting for residents across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Urban mobility experts note that rising passenger numbers often indicate more than improved transport services. Higher metro usage can help reduce dependence on private vehicles, easing road congestion, lowering fuel consumption and contributing to cleaner urban air.
