Passengers travelling between Gujarat and Karnataka will continue to benefit from direct long-distance rail connectivity after Indian Railways extended the operation of the weekly special service connecting Ahmedabad and Mangaluru. The extension is expected to meet sustained passenger demand while strengthening transport links between western India and the country’s southwestern coastal region.
The Ahmedabad Mangaluru Weekly Special will now operate through July 2026, providing continuity for travellers using the corridor for business, education, tourism and family visits. The service follows the existing weekly schedule and route, allowing passengers to plan journeys without disruption during the extended operational period. The train connects Ahmedabad with several important urban and regional centres along the Konkan Railway corridor, passing through major stations in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka before reaching Mangaluru. The route serves industrial hubs, coastal tourism destinations and commercial centres, making it an important transport option for diverse passenger groups.
Transport planners note that extending special train services helps Indian Railways respond to seasonal and sustained travel demand without immediately committing to permanent timetable revisions. Continued operations also provide authorities with an opportunity to assess passenger occupancy, route performance and long-term viability before considering regularisation of services. For Gujarat, the extension reinforces Ahmedabad’s role as a key railway gateway connecting western India with the Konkan coast. Improved rail access supports labour mobility, regional tourism and economic interaction while offering a more sustainable alternative to long-distance road travel.
