Ahmedabad Kalupur railway station will stop accepting inbound and outbound parcel traffic from November 7 to November 15 as Western Railway prepares for heavy passenger movement during the Diwali and Chhath Puja travel period. The temporary restriction covers departmental and leased parcel operations and has been imposed to reduce congestion and protect passengers at the busy station.
The order was issued by Western Railway headquarters on November 6 for Ahmedabad station, identified by the railway code ADI. During the restriction period, parcel booking for both inward and outward movement will not be available from the station. The decision comes as large numbers of passengers travel to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with special trains also being operated to meet the seasonal demand.
According to the order, the festival rush is expected to increase passenger movement across the station’s platforms. Continuing parcel loading and unloading alongside the additional passenger traffic could obstruct movement through platform areas, particularly at a time when the station is also undergoing major redevelopment work.
The suspension applies to all types of parcel traffic handled at Ahmedabad station. This includes parcels managed by the railway as well as parcel traffic provided under lease arrangements. The restriction therefore affects both regular departmental operations and leased parcel services during the nine-day period.
Passenger baggage will not be covered by the ban. Travellers will continue to be allowed to carry personal luggage in passenger coaches under the applicable railway rules. Registered newspapers and magazines will also continue to be booked under regular commercial procedures, according to the order.
Parcels loaded before November 7 may be transported under the exemptions and conditions specified in the railway instruction. The order does not state that parcel services will be diverted to another Ahmedabad-area station, nor does the supplied information specify any alternative booking facility for customers during the suspension.
The temporary measure reflects the operational challenge of managing multiple activities in a constrained railway environment: high seasonal passenger volumes, special train operations, parcel handling and ongoing construction. At Kalupur, platform space and passenger circulation must accommodate both routine railway functions and the additional movement generated by festival travel.
Parcel operations are scheduled to remain suspended through November 15. The supplied order indicates that personal luggage, registered newspapers and magazines, and parcels loaded before the restriction began will be treated under their respective existing rules during the period.
