Ahmedabad Gets 24-Hour Speed Post Service for Key Documents

Ahmedabad residents and businesses can now send important documents through a new India Post service that promises delivery within 24 hours to six major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The 24 Speed Post Document Service was launched at Ahmedabad General Post Office on October 15.

The premium service was inaugurated by the General Postmaster of the North Gujarat region during the closing programme of National Postal Week. The launch expands the service, already available in the six listed metropolitan centres, to Ahmedabad’s postal network.

Under the service, customers can send documents weighing up to 500 grams. India Post has also listed OTP-based delivery and SMS alerts among the service’s features. These measures are intended to provide customers with delivery updates and an additional verification step when documents are handed over.

The first booking under the Ahmedabad launch was made by Bhavika Mangukiya, who booked a document from Ahmedabad to Thane. The General Postmaster presented her with the receipt as part of the service inauguration.

At present, bookings are being accepted at Ahmedabad GPO, the Navrangpura BD Cell and the Business Post Centre in Shahibaug. India Post plans to extend booking availability to Navrangpura Head Post Office, Ellisbridge, Manekbag and Paldi post offices in the near term.

The service is positioned for customers who need time-bound movement of important documents across cities. The source report identifies business firms, banks, financial institutions and ordinary citizens among the likely users. For these groups, the service places the postal network within a segment of urban logistics where delivery certainty, traceability and recipient verification are central requirements.

The Ahmedabad launch also reflects the continuing expansion of premium postal services beyond conventional letter delivery. While the announcement focuses on documents, the operational details connect the service to wider city systems: businesses depend on predictable movement of paperwork, financial institutions require secure document exchange, and residents may need a tracked channel for time-sensitive submissions.

The 24-hour commitment applies to deliveries to the six metropolitan destinations identified by India Post in the announcement. The service’s stated weight ceiling is 500 grams, and bookings are currently limited to the listed centres until the planned expansion to additional post offices is completed.

India Post has not provided further details in the supplied announcement on pricing, delivery eligibility by pin code, compensation provisions or exceptions to the 24-hour commitment. Customers will therefore need to obtain those conditions from the booking centres when using the service. The next operational step is the planned rollout at the four additional Ahmedabad post offices.
