Ahmedabad Drunk Driving Arrest After Car Drags Activa to Metro Station

Vastrapur police arrested Axis Bank branch manager Mihir Sharma after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and dragged an Activa from the Gurukul area to near Doordarshan Metro station in Ahmedabad, according to a report by Sandesh. A liquor bottle was also allegedly recovered from the car.

The incident took place in the Gurukul and Vastrapur areas, where the car was reportedly driven recklessly after coming into contact with the two-wheeler. The Activa was dragged along the road for a considerable distance towards Doordarshan Metro station, creating a risk for other motorists and pedestrians in the area.

Police acted after the incident and took Sharma into custody. During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found a liquor bottle. The report said Sharma admitted during questioning that he had consumed alcohol before driving and that the incident had occurred while he was operating the car under the influence.

Vastrapur police registered a case covering drunk driving, causing an accident and offences under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. The arrest was followed by further investigation into the circumstances of the crash and the route taken by the vehicle.

The police are also examining whether the driver may have caused damage or created hazards at any other location before being detained. The incident involved a road corridor connecting Gurukul with the Doordarshan Metro station area, bringing traffic safety concerns into a busy part of the city with regular movement of private vehicles, two-wheelers and pedestrians.

The case also highlights the enforcement challenge posed by impaired driving on urban roads. In this incident, the reported presence of a liquor bottle in the vehicle and the alleged admission during questioning form part of the police case. The final legal findings will depend on the investigation and proceedings before the relevant authorities.

Vastrapur police have begun further investigation under the sections applied in the case. The next steps will include examining the accident circumstances and determining whether the vehicle was involved in any additional incident before the arrest.
