India and Japan have reaffirmed continued progress on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail project, with the first operational section expected to begin service in 2027. The latest update from the Ministry of External Affairs comes amid public discussion over the project’s implementation timeline and underscores ongoing cooperation between the two countries on one of India’s most significant transport infrastructure initiatives.
Officials stated that construction activities are advancing across multiple sections of the corridor, while bilateral engagement remains active to support the project’s technical and operational requirements. The government also clarified that recent claims circulating on social media regarding delays do not reflect the current status of implementation, emphasising that the project continues to move forward in line with planned milestones. The Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train is expected to become India’s first high-speed rail service, linking two of the country’s largest economic centres through a dedicated corridor designed for faster, more efficient passenger movement. Beyond reducing travel times, the project is expected to improve regional connectivity, strengthen commercial links and encourage investment along the corridor.
