Ahmedabad is set to inaugurate a new flyover at Pallav Char Rasta, a pivotal intersection in the Naranpura area.
This infrastructure project, slated for completion on May 18th, represents a ₹117 crore investment aimed at enhancing the daily commute for approximately 1.5 lakh citizens. The flyover, strategically situated along the 132-feet Ring Road, underscores the city’s commitment to improving urban mobility and fostering efficient transportation networks. Spanning a length of 935 metres and a width of 8.4 metres, the structure rises to a height of 5.37 metres at the Pragatinagar junction. Constructed with 62 spans, the flyover is designed to alleviate traffic bottlenecks in one of Ahmedabad’s busiest corridors, promising to reduce travel times and improve the overall commuting experience for residents. This development adds to the city’s growing network of infrastructure, which, as of early 2025, comprises approximately 81 flyovers, railway overbridges, and river bridges.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has articulated ambitious plans to further expand the city’s road infrastructure, announcing the construction of 25 new flyovers. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanisation and increasing vehicular traffic. Recent infrastructure developments include the inauguration of a 4.2-kilometre elevated corridor on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (SG) Road, connecting the Gota and Science City flyovers. This project, completed at a cost of ₹170 crore, has significantly improved traffic flow along the busy SG Highway, a vital artery for the city.
Ahmedabad’s commitment to innovative infrastructure solutions is further exemplified by the introduction of its first double-decker flyover in 2011, enhancing connectivity between Maninagar-Hatkeshwar and the Vadodara Express Highway. This pioneering project showcases the city’s forward-thinking approach to urban planning and its dedication to embracing cutting-edge engineering techniques.
