A proposed direct rail service between Sabarmati in Ahmedabad and Lalgarh in Bikaner is set to strengthen connectivity between Gujarat and Rajasthan, offering passengers an additional intercity travel option while supporting regional mobility and economic integration across western India.
The planned Ahmedabad Bikaner Express is expected to operate through key towns including Mehsana, Patan, Bhildi, Raniwara, Bhinmal, Jalore, Balotra, Samdari, Jodhpur, Merta Road and Nagaur before reaching Bikaner. By linking multiple commercial and residential centres along the route, the service could reduce travel inconvenience for passengers who currently rely on indirect connections or train changes. Transport planners note that expanding direct rail services can improve accessibility for students, workers, tourists and businesses while encouraging a shift towards lower-emission modes of long-distance travel. Rail-based mobility remains an important component of sustainable infrastructure planning, particularly for corridors connecting rapidly developing urban and semi-urban regions.
