The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has unveiled an ambitious plan to widen the Blessing Garden main road in Hennur, a vital artery linking Chikka Byrathi and Kylasanahalli villages.
The proposed project aims to expand the current 1.1 km stretch from a modest 12 meters to a more capacious 24 meters. Notably, this augmentation will be facilitated through the innovative acquisition of land employing transferrable development rights (TDR). Initially contemplating conventional cash transactions for land procurement, BBMP officials have pivoted towards a more strategic approach directed from higher echelons, opting for TDR certificates as the modus operandi for expansion. This shift underscores a commitment to efficient resource utilisation and urban development in alignment with contemporary municipal governance paradigms. The endeavour to broaden the Blessing Garden main road is firmly rooted in the Revised Master Plan of 2015, a testament to the municipality’s proactive stance on infrastructure enhancement. This vital thoroughfare, traversing between Hennur and Byrathi village via Geddalahalli, has been earmarked for expansion to accommodate burgeoning traffic demands. Notably, a preceding initiative in 2019-20 saw the BBMP invest Rs 4.5 crore to widen the road to 12 meters, laying the groundwork for subsequent development. In a demonstration of meticulous planning, BBMP officials conducted a comprehensive traffic analysis study inclusive of an origin and destination survey to ascertain the viability of the proposed widening project. This methodological approach underscores the municipality’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making and sustainable urban development practices.
