The commencement of the Fort Kochi service of the Kochi Water Metro marks a significant milestone in the city’s transportation infrastructure amidst the constraints of the Election Code of Conduct.
The inaugural service, which commenced at 10 am from the High Court Junction Terminal on Sunday, symbolises a crucial step forward in enhancing connectivity and mobility in the region. In adherence to electoral regulations, launch events were eschewed, emphasising the project’s commitment to legal compliance and civic responsibility. Officials from the Kochi Water Metro project informed that the service from the High Court Terminal to Fort Kochi will operate every half an hour starting at 10 am daily, with a ticket price of Rs 40. Fort Kochi Terminal, now the tenth terminal of the Kochi Water Metro project, signifies the project’s gradual expansion and its growing role in facilitating efficient and sustainable urban transportation. Upon its completion, the project aims to encompass a total of 38 terminals, further bolstering connectivity and accessibility across Kochi.
Distinguished passengers on the inaugural journey to Fort Kochi included Santhosh George Kulangara, Founder of Safari Channel and avid traveller, alongside Lokanath Behera, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited, among others. Their presence underscores the significance of the Kochi Water Metro as a transformative force in the city’s transport landscape, catering to diverse needs and preferences of commuters and travellers alike.
