Central Railway (CR) has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at thirteen major railway stations across Mumbai until December 7. The move, aimed at ensuring smoother passenger movement, comes ahead of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, a period that traditionally sees high passenger inflows across the city’s transit hubs.

According to a railway official, the suspension is designed to prioritise the safety and convenience of daily commuters while mitigating risks associated with overcrowding on platforms. “Managing crowd flow is essential, especially during peak periods and festival observances. By temporarily halting ticket sales, we can reduce congestion and ensure safer boarding and deboarding,” the official explained. The affected stations include some of Mumbai’s busiest transit nodes, serving thousands of commuters daily. Central Railway has advised travellers to plan journeys in advance and to make use of season passes or existing travel cards wherever possible.
