Central Railway Announces Special Traffic And Power Blocks On Karjat Khopoli Line From October

Mumbai’s Central Railway (CR) has announced a series of special traffic and power day blocks on the Karjat–Khopoli section from October 24 to November 1 to facilitate essential post non-interlocking works as part of the ongoing Karjat Yard remodelling project. The upgrades are aimed at enhancing train movement efficiency and operational capacity across this critical suburban route.

Officials from CR confirmed that the blocks will be enforced from 11.20 am to 1.20 pm on October 24 and from October 27 to November 1, while the blocks on October 25 and 26 will be extended from 11.20 am to 3.45 pm. These temporary halts will affect the section between Nagnath Cabin and Karjat, directly impacting local suburban operations. During the block periods, suburban train services between Karjat and Khopoli will be suspended. On specific days — October 24, 25, 28, and November 1 — Karjat-bound local trains departing at 12.00 noon and 1.15 pm and Khopoli-bound trains departing at 11.20 am and 12.40 noon will be cancelled. Services on other days of the block period will continue as per normal schedule. Railway officials have requested passengers to plan their travel in advance and advised commuters to explore alternate routes to minimise inconvenience.

The Karjat Yard remodelling project is a strategic initiative by Central Railway to modernise its infrastructure, reduce congestion, and improve punctuality on one of the most crucial suburban corridors. Post non-interlocking works are vital in this context, as they ensure seamless train operations while integrating newly upgraded signalling systems and track layouts. Experts in railway operations note that such periodic maintenance, though disruptive in the short term, significantly improves the long-term sustainability and safety of train services. By enhancing the efficiency of suburban lines like Karjat–Khopoli, CR aims to provide a more reliable and eco-friendly commuting experience, potentially reducing dependence on road transport and lowering carbon emissions.

Officials also highlighted that these upgrades will facilitate smoother integration with freight operations and long-distance services that pass through the Karjat section, contributing to more balanced and equitable utilisation of the railway network. Passengers are urged to remain patient and stay updated via official CR advisories for any changes in timing or additional instructions. While temporary service suspensions may cause inconvenience, the project underscores Central Railway’s commitment to modernising suburban rail infrastructure in Mumbai, improving operational reliability, and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
