Western Railway To Operate 3.5 Hour Night Block Between Mahim And Santacruz Stations

Mumbai’s Western Railway has announced a temporary night block on the suburban network this weekend, impacting local train services between Mahim and Santacruz stations. Scheduled for the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, October 4–5, 2025, the maintenance activity will run from 1:00 am to 4:30 am, focusing on track, signalling, and overhead equipment repairs.

Officials clarified that during the 3.5-hour jumbo block, all down slow line trains will operate on down fast lines between Mumbai Central and Santacruz. Due to platform constraints, trains will skip Mahalaxmi, Prabhadevi, and Matunga Road stations, while taking double halts at Lower Parel, Mahim, and Khar Road stations. Up slow line trains will similarly run on up fast lines, taking double halts at Khar Road and bypassing other intermediate stations. Certain suburban trains in both directions will remain cancelled for the duration. Authorities emphasised that day-time train operations on Sunday will remain unaffected. Western Railway has urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, noting that passenger safety remains the top priority during maintenance operations. Senior officials confirmed that all standard safety protocols will be rigorously followed to ensure seamless execution of the night block without compromising commuter security.

The night block also coincides with the nationwide Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 initiative, observed from October 1–15. This two-week campaign promotes cleanliness, environmental awareness, and public engagement across railway stations, workshops, offices, and trains. Western Railway’s local campaign has actively involved staff, passengers, and community members, integrating awareness drives, station clean-ups, and pledges to maintain hygiene standards. Railway officials highlighted that Swachhata Pakhwada complements broader sustainability and eco-friendly urban mobility goals. By ensuring well-maintained infrastructure and orderly operations, the Western Railway contributes to safer, greener, and more efficient commuting options in Mumbai, aligning with city-wide initiatives for sustainable transportation and reduced congestion.

With the night block, Mumbai commuters are advised to check real-time updates and plan alternative routes to avoid travel delays. Officials reaffirmed that these maintenance measures, while temporarily disruptive, are crucial for the long-term reliability of the suburban railway network.
