Bihar is preparing to launch its 11th Amrit Bharat Express, strengthening connectivity across the state and linking it with Rajasthan. The new service, running between Darbhanga and Madar Junction (Ajmer), is expected to commence operations on a weekly basis, providing residents with a modern, safe, and affordable rail travel experience. Officials have confirmed that this addition aligns with Indian Railways’ broader objective of enhancing regional mobility and passenger convenience.
The Amrit Bharat Express series, designed for affordable long-distance travel, mirrors many features of the premium Vande Bharat trains but is tailored for lower and lower-middle-income passengers. With 10 existing trains originating from or passing through Bihar, the addition of this service underscores the state’s growing prominence in India’s rail network. Experts note that such high-quality yet accessible transport solutions are critical for equitable urban and regional connectivity. The new train will connect Darbhanga with Madar Junction, facilitating faster travel for business, education, and tourism. Officials highlighted that the service will offer a significant reduction in travel time compared to conventional trains while maintaining operational efficiency. Amrit Bharat Express trains incorporate several modern features to enhance passenger comfort and safety. Each train is equipped with semi-automatic couplers, modular toilets constructed from advanced materials, reinforced pillars and partitions, and emergency talk-back systems. The coaches are designed with EP-assisted brakes, ergonomically designed seats and berths, continuous lighting systems, and fully equipped pantry cars. Additionally, emergency alarms, fire detection systems, charging sockets with phone holders, and external emergency lights provide passengers with a reliable, secure journey. Experts emphasise that these design upgrades align with India’s goals of sustainable and passenger-centric rail services. According to railway officials, the new service is expected to ease passenger congestion on existing routes while offering affordable access to modern rail infrastructure.
